There's a shortcut almost every candle brand takes at some point. Synthetic fragrance oils are cheaper, more stable, and easier to scale. Most of the industry uses them. We don't, We won't and never will! That's worth explaining why.
What's actually in a "natural" fragrance
Essential oils are extracted straight from plants, through steam distillation or cold pressing, not built in a lab from chemical compounds. That's the difference between a candle that smells like Lemon Myrtle and one that's chasing the idea of Lemon Myrtle with synthetic substitutes. The real thing costs more to source. We've decided that's a cost worth carrying.
It's also why our Instagram bio says 100% essential oil fragrances and means it. Not "essential oil blend." Not "inspired by." The real thing.
The BePURE Commitment isn't a marketing line
Every Glow Collection and PartyLite fragrance is held to our BePURE Commitment, a list of more than 40 ingredients we will never use. No parabens. No phthalates. No sulfates. No artificial colours. No animal-derived ingredients of any kind. These aren't ingredients we trimmed down over time, they were never on the table.
We don't say this to win an argument against synthetic fragrance brands. We say it because if something's going to fill your home every day, you should know exactly what's in it, and just as importantly, what isn't.
Plant-based, not just plant-scented
Our wax is derived from a renewable sources. Our wicks are lead-free. Our packaging is recyclable. None of our candles are tested on animals, and none contain animal-derived ingredients. Sustainability isn't a campaign we run once a year, it's a condition every product has to meet before it earns a place on the shelf.
That's also why we work with fragrance houses like Givaudan, Symrise, and Australian Botanical Products. Building a complex, beautiful scent entirely from natural extracts is harder than building one in a chemistry lab. It takes longer. It costs more. It's also the only way to get a fragrance that performs the way ours do, without the trade-offs synthetic oils quietly bring with them.
Why this matters more than it sounds
Scent is one of the few things that fills your whole home, every hour you burn it, every day you use it. That's not a small thing to get wrong. We'd rather pay more for the real ingredient than save money on a shortcut you'd never know was there, until years from now, someone asks why.
This isn't us claiming essential oils are some kind of miracle ingredient. It's simpler than that. We just don't think a candle in your home, your kid's room, or your kitchen, should be something you have to second-guess. Plant-based ingredients, sustainably sourced, free from the things we'd never want to put in our own homes either. That's not a trend for us. It's the only way we know how to do this properly.
