How to recycle and reuse your Glow Collection jars (the friendly, environmentally conscious guide)

  • 3 min read

Looking for environmentally friendly ways to enjoy your scented candles and reduce waste?

All our jars and packaging from all our collections are designed with environmentally conscious choices in mind, so you can love the fragrance and feel good about what happens next.

We’re proud that our fragrances are crafted with the highest quality, sustainable, plant-derived ingredients and are obsessed with how every blend is thoughtfully composed to be kinder to you and the planet, without compromising on throw or longevity.

Beyond the fragrance itself, we design for when you’ve enjoyed that last glow. This means, the materials we use are fully recyclable, and we do that by prioritising components that are biodegradable or reusable. From glass vessels to recyclable plastics and paper-based packaging, each part of your product has a considered path before and after the last burn.

What makes Glow packaging planet-friendly

Our glass candle jars, including 3-wick and 4-wick jars, can be recycled through most recycle programs once they’re empty and clean. Our tealights use recyclable plastic - check your local guidelines and recycle where facilities exist. Outer cartons and most protective inserts are recyclable in standard paper/card streams. We also keep packaging purposeful to reduce waste without losing gifting appeal.

How to clean any candle jar for recycling or reuse

  1. Freeze method: place the cooled jar in the freezer for a few hours, then gently pop out remaining wax with a spoon.

  2. Warm-water rinse: add warm (not boiling) soapy water to loosen residual wax and wipe clean.

  3. Wick tab removal: pry off the metal wick tab and recycle it with metals if your council accepts small steel items.

  4. Dry and decide: recycle the clean glass in your kerbside bin or give it a second life at home.

Always follow your local council’s recycling rules, as rules vary across Australia.

Reuse ideas by collection

3-wick glass jars
• Bathroom caddy: store cotton pads, earbuds or bath salts.
• Desk tidy: corral pens, clips and small stationery.
• Mini planter: perfect for succulents—add pebbles for drainage.

4-wick statement jars
• Decor bowl: a chic catch-all for keys, remotes or jewellery.
• Table centrepiece: fill with shells, dried gum nuts or seasonal florals.
• Pantry helper: decant wrapped sweets or coffee pods (use only when the jar is spotless and odour-free).

Citronella collection (two-toned vessels)
• Beautiful decor after summer: the two-toned design can be recycled or reused as striking decor—think vase sleeve, shelf accent or outdoor styling piece.
• Outdoor organiser: hold napkins, cutlery or matches on the patio.
• Plant companion: style fresh herbs or hardy indoor plants for a resort-at-home vibe.

Tealights (recyclable plastic cups)
• Once fully cooled, remove leftover wax, then place the recyclable plastic cup in the correct bin where facilities exist.
• Empty cups can also sort beads, pins or small screws in a drawer organiser.

Wax melts and warmers
• Let wax cool and solidify, then ease it out for disposal.
• Many clamshell packages are recyclable where facilities exist—confirm locally.
• Wipe warmer dishes with a paper towel, then wash with mild warm soapy water.

Reed diffusers and room fragrance
• Diffuser glass can be rinsed and recycled with glass, or reused as a slim bud vase.
• Reeds go to general waste.
• Room spray bottles: check the plastic code on bottle and cap, rinse and recycle where accepted.

From candle to keepsake: simple steps

  1. Burn cleanly: trim wicks to about 5 mm, let the wax pool reach the edges, and stop with roughly 1 cm remaining for safety.

  2. Cool completely before cleaning.

  3. Use the freezer or warm-water method to remove wax.

  4. Remove wick tab and labels (soak to loosen adhesive).

  5. Wash, dry and choose reuse or recycling.

Safety notes

Avoid boiling water on glass to prevent thermal shock. Don’t store food in jars that held strong or coloured wax unless they’re completely odour-free and suitable. Keep repurposed vessels away from unsupervised children.

Quick reference: what goes where?

• 3-wick candle glass: recycle kerbside or reuse.
• 4-wick statement jars: recycle kerbside or reuse as decor.
• Citronella two-toned vessels: recycle kerbside or reuse as beautiful decor.
• Tealight cups (recyclable plastic): recycle where facilities exist.
• Cardboard boxes and sleeves: recycle with paper/card.
• Metal wick tabs: recycle with metals if accepted by your council.
• Reeds (diffusers): general waste; diffuser glass to recycling.
